Greetings all
Am asking for your thoughts about the Megane 2 you have (or had).

Let us know model, driving experience & any issues you have encountered.

Thanks!

Love mine - 2.0l dynamique manual pearl black. Had it 11 months and drives really well. None of my buddies can believe it's 7 years old. Could do with a bit more grunt but it is adequate.
The seats are Sooo comfortable.
No regrets from my corner.

Spiro,
I've had 15+ cars in the last 30 odd years. My current is an '07 Megane hatch I've had from new. It's my most like car I've ever had with the possible exception of the my first two (Dauphine Gordini & R10 roundeye).

It's a magic little car (not so little inside). Loves to rev freely and is quite spritely - 2.0 petrol engine. Only issue ever was it needed the engine mounts changed. This was done under warranty at Renault's instigation as part of a general fix sort of thing. I never noticed anything wrong apart from actually being able to feel the engine at idle when previously I need the tacho to tell me it was actually running.

It's a manual, stops on a pinhead and my kids complain that it's too responsive when they use it 'cos they're not used to the lightness of the controls.

I love all the auto things so I don't have to fuss with light switches, heater/air controls, wipers etc. They nearly always work as they're supposed to but every now and then they'll just do something wierd, like the wipers will go a couple of times in the middle of a hot dry day. But, hey, I love that craziness to - sooo Renault-ish.

I have found an annoyance though. The headlight globes are a fricking nightmare to get to to change. You can get an hand on the cover from inside the engine compartment but you can't then move that hand - at least I can't. There's an access port in the wheel well so you can get your hand in there and take the cover off. But you need two hands to take the globe out of the holder and to get it in back in. I spat the dummy then and took it to the shop. Only cost $40 bucks or so - but an unnecessary cost and an offensively stupid design. Really, what were they thinking.

But jeeze it's a nice car. I'm gunna keep it for me grandkids -I reckon they'll be a cult item like the R4l and the Citroen 2CV in fiddy years:headbang:

Buy one. Go on, you know you want to.
Geoff

You're welcome to try mine next time we cross paths Spiz :wink2: It's only fair.

I purchased a 2010 Megane 2 months ago and was thrilled with it for about a month. Then to my horror, it started playing up in a big way. The motor (diesel) would drop to an idle and would not accelerate for about 5 - 10 seconds. It would then pick up revs and proceed as if nothing had occured. As you can imagine, this was very scary, paricularly when it happened in heavy traffic. This happened 10 times while I was waiting to get it seen to by the Dealership.(this was around Easter and the Dealership was taking over new premises and clearly were not up to speed in their Service Dept) Renault Australia were called in to assist in the diagnosis and decided that the alternator was causing the computer to switch off and cause the engine to lose power. As the nearest alternator lived in France and was going to take about 10 days they came to the party and supplied me with a rental car at their cost. Since getting the car back some 7 days ago, I experienced a very brief hesitation in the motor on three occasions. I was very unhappy about this of course and let the Dealership know this. The car was booked in to be looked at again yesterday but in the mean time (as they had no courtesy car available and were fully booked) I decided to give the car a good spin on the Hume Hwy and several other roads in the country. This appears to have done the trick. I put on 2400kms on the car in just a few days and it now runs like a Swiss watch. Sorry to be so long winded but I felt that a full explanation was necessary in an effort to make some sense out of the drama. This is my first Renault and it is a delight to drive. Renault Australia and the Dealership have been first class.

I also have a megane diesel, a 2007 now at 135,000 km. I am surprised there are any 2010 diesels around, I didn't think they imported them that late. Are you sure that is the build date? It is a very good engine, specially for country driving.
I have only had one issue, the egr valve, a common problem with diesels. It is a simple problem but was difficult to repair due to dealer incompetence and difficulty getting parts. Renault customer service are very good but some dealers not so good. Very reliable cars, though the alloy wheels dent very easily. BTW no megane diesel in the current lineup - how crazy is that?

Yes, the EGR Valve was found to be stuck (open or shut) I cannot remember which, but Renault Australia ordered in a new one along with the alternator. It's definiately a December 2010 Special Edition Exception with the 1.870cc turbo diesel engine. Of course I was talked into having the windows tinted and I also had parking sensors fitted as well. My fingers are Xed in the hope of trouble free motoring from now on.

2005 RS225 intercooled turbo 6 speed manual.

One new engine mount.

130K km in first five years.

Still runs like a Swiss watch. A sweet ride that still is as tight as new.

I love my RS!

Dave

hi guys i am thinking or getting new megane manual hatch. Yes might move on the RS225 simply from a $$$ point of view . 5 yr warranty long service intervals ect ...... i know it wont be the same drive ..... but not 100% yet

Thank for the detailed reply Geoff.
That's a lot of cars! I just did a tally and I'm up to #17...
My Clio197 is the best by far, but I need a 2nd car for work purposes. Looking at either Megane2 or 3...

I have had a couple of engine mounts in ours, had it for nearly 6 years with a lot of city driving (I suspect stop/start might make the mounts soften a little quicker)

Ours is a LXR model, with Panoramic Sunroof/17" rims and leather trim. Fun to drive, very quiet and good for country and city driving.

Really like the car, and wish the current model was less boring!

Have had a low kilometre '04 Authentique 1.6 hatch for 7 years. Handbrake and speedo (reset trip meter function faulty) under warranty. Nothing else except cam belt etc . Faultless driver.
