I'm finally getting to my oil system. So far I have acquired

Baffled sump from an XU10
Windage tray
Oil pump pick up extension - c/- PeterT
XU10 2 litre oil pump spring (Peugeot Part # 1157 11)

I have also ordered (c/- PeterT) the windage tray ribs which are still to be delivered.

Here are some pics of modifying the pick up to suit the extension. I used the extension as a template to centre punch the strainer and base. Then I drilled the strainer and base so they could be mounted to the extension. I'll remove these now so the extension can be tig'd to the oil pump.

Simple question, When I tig the extention to the pick up, do I weld all the way around the edge or are spot welds ok?

Hey I'm just about to do the same to an 8v - parts are on their way. The XU10 sump you speak of: does it have some ugly lump of snot hanging off the rear of the sump that looks like it bolts up to a different gearbox, or have I got the wrong sump? The rail bolt pattern is the same.

No there is no mountings that I can see (or know of) that attaches to any part of the gearbox. I'll post some pictures of the sump I have tonight if you like.

that'd be much appreciated - I'll do the same if they're different and perhaps someone could help me identify the one I do have. Sorry to hijack the thread.

Chez why not just use the original sump off of your 205's DFZ?
Or is this the sump you're talking about?
It's similar to the Xu10 sump (same size) except it doesn't already have the sump baffle. Which is good because PeterT can fab you a better one.
Everything else is done the same, DKZ 15mm spacer plate with modified ribs and windage tray, extended oil pick up to take advantage of extra oil capacity, etc.

Hey Frog,

unfortunately Peter's not doing his sump mods at the moment. He suggested getting the 2L baffled unit, which I have chased down, along with the windage tray. Actually it looks like there's not much to making one of these trapdoors, so I probably will modify my dfz sump if this one doesn't work out. It's all time which I just don't have much of at the moment. I'll try posting pics later.

I got arround to welding up my oil system parts this morning. Some pictures attached.

Looks great!

I can assure you this will end your oil worries. Its sure did for mine, best $$$ I ever spent on it. I have never seen the oil pressure so much as think about dropping when rounding the onramps to the highway. Not like the old days.

Thank you all. Over the Christmas break I will have the oil stuff to install and rear beam to rebuild so it will be a couple of weeks work at a leisurely pace (inbetween lots of food and alcohol of course)

Merry Christmas.

Don't forget to Loctite all the screws (243).

ok, now where were we.....

I was slightly distracted by the attempted repair of my rear beam.

Today i got into the fitting of my XU10 sump, spacer (with PeterT windage tray ribs) and pick up extension.

The fitting went pretty well actually with photos and steps below.

I had to modify the area where the guide pin is........ The pin was sitting proud of the extension plate - this fixed it

There shouldn't be any gaskets. They are only for steel sumps.

I know it's ally against ally but I still like using a gasket. I used three bond with the extension plate. I 'spose it was just there to use.

Nice one mate, looking good!

Is your 205 lowered? Does the spacer kit make the sump more volnerable for treet driving?

This is probably what I should have done too. I went the whole hog and have a dry sump on mine. I've been worried about the external drive belt being vulnerable, but many many fast lats later and no problems.

When hot, running at high RPM, what sort of oil pressure do you get on your XU engine? My system has a variable relief valve, and when cold at idle I have it set to give me around 65PSI, which equates to about 50PSI hot at 7000RPM.

I didn't dyno the car before and after the dry sump (mistake) but from figures quoted elsewhere, I have to guess the dry sump is good for about 5kW increase. Not a bad pick up, but not cost effective.

I'm just about go the final step on the wet sump and fit an accumulator. Can't decide what size and whether accusump or moroso. They've become very popular with Honda powered Elises.

When hot with fresh oil on the straight I was at about 55 - 65 psi. Half way through the carousal at Lakeside, 5000 rpm in third (when I could look) it was lucky to hit 15 psi which is why I was a little timid in the corners.

I started it about 30 mins ago to flush the old oil through and the gauge shot straight up to 95. I have drained that now and put some new (cheapy) stuff in to run for a month. Before my next track day I will go synthetic.

Booyaaaaa
