mystery spark plugs for euro cars available

does anybody know of a s/plug brand EYQUEM. they are made in france apparently and are for european cars. i may be able to get some bulk VERY cheap and then pass them on to aussiefrog people, but i wouldnt have a clue which car/motor could use them. they are eyquem 705 js type. any ideas??
 
Eyquem are the automotive electronics division of Sagem (a French electronics company). You used to be able to get to a "spark plug selector" type page from the Sagem home page, but it seems to be broken now.
 
It's a wonder that they aren't shown in your owners handbook as I think they are fitted standard to Cits, can't speak for the others.
Only problem I can see is that for me, my CX will take a single contact plug whereas the BX 16V takes the 4 pole type and there is a different type for a 2200 to a 2400. I suppose it depends on whether you can pre-order them as I doubt you will be able to just buy a box of just one type.
If you can get those 3/4 type plugs at the right price, I reckon you'll get more than a few excited :D
A cross reference shouldn't be all that hard to come by. If Champion or any of those have a website, they may be available there.

My R12 came with a set of Eyquem plugs in the glovebox - from memory 704S. I've still got them in the shed - I'll have to check.

alan, i've tried owners handbooks, search engines and some other plug makers as a cross reference..still no info.all i found out was eyquem brand were supplied direct to peugeot. i'm not going to buy boxes of these if i cant find out what car can use them. i could then get stuck with them. i suppose i could always use them as sinkers for fishing!! any more help out there?

For a BX 16V/Mi16 the plugs which mine had in it were FC 62 LS 3 (the "3" I would suspect standing for 3 terninal type)
For a Citroen CX 2200 they recommend the 705 S
For reasons best known to themselves, the plugs for a CX 2400 vary slightly to those on a 2200 As an example in other brands an AC 42FS on a CX2200 is replaced with an AC 43FS on a CX2400. I think that you'll find that specs wise they are so close that normal procedure is to use the same plug for both applications.
If someone can find a handbook or service manual for a BX 16 and 19 series, we should be able to work out the equivalent Peugeots.

Hope that helps shed some light. If I can get a hold of a conversion chart, I'll scan & post it.

Hi Guys,

strange there different?? You see I bought a box of NGK plugs in to suit the old ID19. The plugs turned out to be identical for ID19 - DS23 inj, CX2000 - CX2500... ie: all the same. Just through some of them into the CX and replaced its exhaust flex & both mufflers. The change in the way the car drives in un-beleivable. The torque down low has increased 10fold. And it's not trying to choke me to death everytime I drive it anymore.

There got to be cross reference charts for the plugs your after on the net somewhere??

My original R12 owners manual specifies the "Eyquem Renault 705S" for the low compression version of the 12. They must've done the OEM plugs or a least some of them.

Yeah they are hardly a mystery brand - my mechanic seems to have boxes of them and uses them in Pugs and Renos all the time.

Alpine Motors in Canberra will be able to give you specifics of the cross referencing if required for a particular car.

Speaking of spark plugs Wongy at AutoFrance (Artarmon) told me to put Beru plugs in my 306... I got them but haven't even taken them out of the box yet. I think they're 3 or 4 electrode? Apparently they're the same as what goes in the XM now. I know the XM had Eyquem in it when we bought it. I'll let you know anyway.

Would these brands discussed have any notable difference to your standard NGK's or Champion's?
 
yes fellas, i know eyquem plugs go into alot of cars particuly french ones... thats why i'm asking for help! but which ones?? as u know if the wrong heat range is put in a car it will run like a hairy dog. if aussie frog members can help out on this one it might benefit us all. we are talking around 60 cents each to u guys. can anybody cross reference out there..i've tried all avenues. come on all u detectives out there[before they get sold on me]

Well just changed the plugs on the 306XR (1.8L)
The old ones were Eyquem RFC52LS so my guess is the 705 JS wouldn't be suitable for a 306?

The new ones I put in are Beru UltraX UXF79. They are 4 electrode and the car seems much more responsive but that was only on a drive around the block. They were $10.40 each.

Just got back from the local SupaCheap and you don't wanna know the stories so that I could get my hand on a plug chart. Got in & got out quickly so I didn't push the luck; here's what I found out.
The plug recommended for a CX Citroen was an NGK BP6HS

Now they didn't have a comparison chart for our Eyquem brand but I have found in the service manual that the CX Citroens take a 705S and these plugs of jr's are shown as a "JS" so I don't know it therte is any difference. Maybe someone can find out.
If they do turn out to be the same as the NGK BP6HS, then they are compatible with:
ALL CX's
All D's
Renault R-12 and Virage
Renault R-15.

If they are close enough to be good enough, to a BP6ES or BP6EFS in NGK, then they will be suitable for the Peugeot 504 & 505 as well as a couple more of the Renault range.

Hope this sheds some light. I can also post a website but it is in Danish but apparently it is understandable and shows these brand as well as others as individual as well as 4 pack in parts numbers.

Here is the message I got from a guy in Denmark; hopefully you are a bit more computer literate than I and can get it to a readable size.

Click "Katalog" then the yellow section "Bilreservdelar". Then choose reserv_2.pdf for download. This section contains the spark plugs tables.

It's all in Swedish language as is the company, but price tags are converted to danish currency.

To compare prices, just divide by 12, then you get accurate prices in UK£.

Eyquem FC62LS2 are std. fitment in Mi16 XU9J4. Not sure about XU9J4Z. 52's are one step hotter, so if they equal 705, they should be fine in lower CR engines.
 
Yes Alan I've been reading this, to me I've never noticed any real difference in plug brands, I'm running Eyquem in the MI16 at the moment (just to try them out) I have some customers who insist on Eyquem other who don't care, my brother is running NGK in his BX 16V and has done something close to 100,000 km so for and he uses the theory that if it aint broke don't fix it. I stock NGK and use BP6HS in D, CX and R12's, BP6EFS in Fuegos, 505s ect. I don't use champion because they had a reputation of needing to buy 8 to get 4 good ones. I know the dealers will shudder at the thought of using anything else beside Eyquem and I've heard many people agree, especially with 16V engines and for that reason only we fit them, but really I've never seen any evidence they are any better than NGK, I think my brothers BX is proof of this.
Having said all this, the main reason people chose NGK is price and availability, if someone can overcome these two important problems then by all means stick to what the dealers say.
I'm pretty sure I've got the correct plug types at work, I'll look it up tomorrow.

thanx ian, i tried but to no avail!! the cross reference search chart was reverse about face if u can follow what i mean. i had to place in the opposition type spark plug no. and out would spit the equem no. for it. i tried it in reverse..no go! i punched in peugeot mi16 and got this as a reply... no match. the only way to do it would be to get every body to put in their plug no and try and jag it. any other ideas?? cheers
